![]() ![]() If I just bought a standard cable modem, would it actually work with my provider, or do they actively block non-approved devices? I considered buying an additional modem and using that in bridge mode for the internet traffic but the list my cable company (Cogeco) authorise is only about 6 devices long and most of them are not fast enough or seem to be out of production, or very expensive - like $300+. So really what I want is a way to have the Arris unit in bridge mode but still use Moca. But it still concerns me that the Arris box is sat there NAT'ing traffic and generally getting in the way when I don't need it. So I have had to take the Arris router out of bridge mode, disable wifi and dhcp and everything is still basically working, except for port forwarding which is failing somewhere along the line, thus preventing external access. Everything was going great until I realised that my Tivo mini boxes were no longer operational and then I realised that in bridge mode, Moca doesn't route internally. So I picked up a Google wifi setup and switched the Arris unit into bridge mode and moved all my devices onto the Google Wifi and the cabled devices onto a local switch. The wifi signal strength is awful, frequently requires rebooting, and causes me all manner of network problems. My cable provider supplied Arris TG2472 is an absolutely hateful piece of garbage that I am desperately trying to get rid of, or at least minimise exposure to as much as possible.
